Professionals: Supporting Parenting

This unique suite of seminars and courses provides professional learning and development opportunities any professional who, regularly or incidentally support families with parenting. This includes caseworkers, family support workers, trauma/crisis support workers, counsellors, allied health and educators.

Families today want to know what is best for their child, but the myriad of opinions in social media and within their community has resulted in many parents feeling overwhelmed and confused about child rearing.

With over 45 years professional and personal experiences, knowledge, and insight Michelle Cuthbertson is passionate to see positive outcomes for children, and enhanced relationships within families. Supporting Parenting: Seminars and Workshops

All seminars and workshops can be facilitated online (zoom) or face to face at your venue.

The following packages are available, however other seminars can be designed to specifically to meet the needs of your service.

  • The Supporting Parenting Program is designed for those in a professional role which requires them to incidentally, or regularly, support parenting.

    Participants will develop increased knowledge, skills, and confidence to share current, evidence-based advice with families about children’s behaviour, and strategies to strengthen the parent:child relationship.

    Facilitated over one day or divided into shorter sessions, we will examine:

    • Parenting Today – what does it look like? And what is best practice?

    • The struggles and challenges for families.

    • What do we need to know to support families in their role of parenting?

    • Our own thoughts and ideas about ‘good parenting’, and how that impacts on our professional advice to families.

    • Parenting courses and resources: what is currently available and recommended?

  • Provides an overview of:

    • Current parenting practices;

    • current research;

    and an opportunity to rethink our current opinions and how we share ideas and advice.

  • Participants will gain increased skills, strategies, and confidence to address sensitive topics, such as concerns regarding a child’s behaviour, with parents, by considering:

    • Contemporary parenting practices and associated challenges for families today.

    • Strategies to effectively connect and communicate with families, when addressing children's behaviours of concern.

    • Balancing parents needs and what is best for the child.

    • The core values of genuine consultation and collaboration.

  • Examines:

    • The elements of a secure attachment relationship.

    • The strong link between behaviours of concern and unmet attachment needs in the adult:child relationship.

    • Ideas for professionals to support families to apply theses principles when addressing behaviours.

  • An easy-to-understand overview of neuroscience and behaviour which shifts knowledge from complex to practical.

    Strategies to support parents to better understand the meaning behind their child’s behaviour and emotions.         

  • An overview of the attachment-based Circle of Security Parenting program’s principles and concepts. See also Supporting Clients attending a Circle of Security Parenting program

  • Practical, attachment-based strategies to share with parents who are struggling with their child’s emotional regulation.

    This seminar includes some basic neuroscience and behaviour guidance principles.

  • Information regarding the neuroscience of anxiety and fear in childhood, and strategies.

    Strategies, resources and ideas to share with those who are parenting an anxious child.

  • An overview of childhood neurodiversity, truths and myths.

    Ideas and strategies to support families on the journey  of recognising signs and seeking an early diagnosis of ADD, Aspergers or Autism.

  • Outlines module by module what families are learning. With this knowledge, professionals can better support clients currently attending the group program, as they learn and embed new ways to relate to their child. 

  • Examines what families need to know about their child starting school and how parents can best support the journey. 

  • Professionals may also wish to participate in any of the available Parenting Packages, to enhance their support for families by understanding the principles and concepts e.g. :

    • Circle of Security Parenting – 7 sessions

    • Bringing Up Great Kids – 6 sessions
